About

My work explores the space where reality, imagination, color, memory, and storytelling meet. As a surrealist and narrative artist, I create paintings that invite viewers into moments that feel familiar yet strangely unexpected—places where a character, symbol, landscape, or cultural reference can open the door to another story.

Working in mixed media, oils, and acrylics on canvas, I combine expressive color, texture, atmosphere, and figurative imagery to create dreamlike worlds filled with emotion and possibility.

I am interested in the stories that exist beneath the surface: the memory attached to a place, the mystery behind a stranger, the meaning of a symbol, or the moment just before something changes.

Rather than giving the viewer a complete beginning or ending, I create a moment and leave room for imagination.

I paint the moment between the beginning and the ending.

Welcome to my art journey. I am Brenda Tafla, and I appreciate your interest.

I grew up in Oklahoma, where I dabbled in watercolors, vibrant acrylics, and themes.

In my 20s, I moved to Europe, explored museums, culture, and languages, and experimented with oil painting. I was searching for my artistic voice.

Now I live in San Diego, California, and I have found that surrealism and narrative storytelling are a strong match for my personality. It fits well into my themes.

I hope you'll stay with me on this journey, and I look forward to painting new stories.
